![]() There was something so tangible about him- whether it was his insecurities (which he didn't ever take out on the female lead), his gentleness, his protectiveness, his gruffness, his physical mass, his focus on her, he was just. We've all read that- maybe minus the non-conventionally attractive MMC. ![]() ![]() On its face there isn't anything revolutionary about the story- a grumpy older (age 35) non-conventionally attractive man meets a much younger (21) more optimistic woman who needs protection in a dangerous world. Kent's focal point of the story is, of course the two main characters- and I haven't found a more believable, pleasurable, heart warming couple in what feels like ages. Sometimes it feels like I've read every good romance book (which although I know to be untrue, is still a semi-frequent feeling), and then I find the perfect story I didn't know I needed. The synopsis didn't appeal to me, the author's track record seemed inconsistent (I read Escorted several years ago and loved it wildly at the time, but her other books look to have had iffy receptions), and I didn't trust her to be able to build a rich enough post-apocalyptic world that didn't irritate me, cry out for better editing, etc.īut I was stuck in a waiting room, and started it to pass the time- I read it all in the next 24 hours. ![]() ![]() I read Last Light by Claire Kent on a total whim, based on a post on this subreddit a few days ago. ![]()
